Chief Engineer

What you will be doing

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of maintenance and facilities operations at the resort, ensuring the highest standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage a team, oversee preventative maintenance programs, and implement efficient processes to maintain the resort's physical assets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct and oversee the daily operations of the engineering and maintenance department, ensuring all systems and facilities are operating efficiently.
• Develop, implement, and manage a preventative maintenance program to extend the longevity of the property’s infrastructure and equipment.
• Ensure all maintenance and repair work is completed in compliance with safety standards, local regulations, and company policies.
• Manage capital projects, renovations, and repair work to improve the overall functionality and appearance of the resort.
• Monitor energy consumption and implement cost-saving initiatives to improve efficiency and sustainability.
• Lead and mentor the engineering team, providing training and development to enhance technical skills and service quality.
• Maintain a strong working relationship with vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and improvements.
• Conduct regular inspections of rooms, common areas, pools, and mechanical systems to proactively identify and address issues.
• Respond to emergency maintenance situations and coordinate quick, effective resolutions to minimize disruptions to guests and operations.
• Collaborate with other departments, including housekeeping and front office, to ensure seamless guest experiences.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, budgets, and equipment inventory.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance or engineering leadership role within the hospitality, resort, or property management industry.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
• Experience managing capital improvement projects and overseeing budgets.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Certifications such as EPA (HVAC), CPO (Certified Pool Operator), or OSHA training are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various indoor and outdoor conditions.

Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
