Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering at Hotel Granduca is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and engineering operations of the hotel. This includes ensuring all systems, equipment, and facilities function optimally to deliver an exceptional guest experience. The role requires leadership of a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff while collaborating with other hotel departments to uphold the luxury standards of Hotel Granduca.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

• Supervise and lead the engineering and maintenance team to ensure all hotel facilities and systems are operational and well-maintained.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to ensure staff knowledge and efficiency.
• Schedule and manage resources for preventive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations to monitor staff performance and development.

Facility & Equipment Management:

• Oversee the hotel's physical infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, and mechanical systems.
• Ensure all systems operate efficiently, with preventive maintenance in place to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate repairs and upgrades, adhering to budgetary constraints.

Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry safety standards, including fire prevention and building codes.
• Maintain clean, safe, and functional guest and public spaces.
• Develop and enforce safety protocols to protect guests, staff, and property.
• Maintain an effective emergency response plan for the engineering department.

Budget & Cost Management:

• Prepare and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring expenses align with hotel financial goals.
• Identify opportunities for cost-saving initiatives through energy conservation, efficient operations, and system improvements.
• Manage inventory control of spare parts, tools, and equipment.

Guest Experience:

• Ensure timely and disruption-free delivery of engineering-related services, such as room repairs and in-room amenities.
• Address and resolve guest concerns related to maintenance or facility management promptly and professionally.
• Maintain Hotel Granduca’s luxury standards by ensuring all areas—guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house—are well-maintained.

Collaboration & Communication:

• Work closely with the management team to ensure a seamless guest experience.
• Participate in regular meetings to review hotel operations and address maintenance or engineering challenges.
• Provide regular performance updates to the General Manager on engineering department progress, projects, and initiatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule department personnel.
• Review and approve daily payroll activity.
• Perform maintenance tasks as needed.
• Coordinate and supervise all safety-related aspects of the hotel, including inspections and policies.
• Keep storage and work areas organized and clean.
• Assist other departments to provide superior guest service.
• Be aware of hotel occupancy and availability.
• Restore out-of-order suites to "sell status."
• Maintain and service equipment and tools.
• Approve department-related expenditures and submit for payment.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in facilities management or engineering, preferably within the hotel or hospitality industry.
• Previous experience managing teams, budgets, and large-scale hotel maintenance operations.
• Strong understanding of hotel systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building automation.
• Familiarity with Alice and Transcendent systems is a plus.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field desired.

Skills & Competencies:

• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Proficiency in general office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• Knowledge of safety protocols and building codes.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of guest satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in luxury or high-end hotel environments.
• Certification in facilities management or engineering.
• Knowledge of energy-efficient systems and sustainable practices.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
• Transcendent software knowledge is preferred.
