Position Objective
Plans, directs, and coordinates all catering and conference services staff, to solicit, book and maximize banquet & catering revenues, as well as successfully plan, execute and manage group programs and catering functions.
Essential Job Functions
- Solicit new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone, site inspections and written communication.
- Administer all phases of the department, including, but not limited to, sales, planning, servicing, and administrative procedures.
- Prepare, implement, and compile data for strategic sales plan, monthly reports, annual goals, forecasts, and other reports as directed and/or required.
- Direct, manage, train, and counsel the catering and conference services staff. Oversee divisional matters as they relate to federal, state, and local employment and civil rights laws.
- Participate in daily business review meetings, sales meetings, and management meetings.
- Tour, inspect and monitor banquet rooms and presentations. Responsible for the management of sales and catering databases as Admin, as it relates to catering and conference services; primarily support issues and maintenance of database.
- Maintain accurate forecast of banquet and catering revenues.
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the requirements of the resort:
- Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.
- Participate as a team player with all departments.
- Provide constructive feedback to all departments.
- Be a leader and a role model to all service professionals.
Education/Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Bachelor’s degree preferred. Five years of Conference Services experience required.
Requirements
- Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
- Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Most tasks are performed in a team environment with the employee acting as a team leader. There is minimal direct supervision.
- Extensive knowledge of food and beverage pricing, proper preparation and presentation of food and beverage items.
- Extensive knowledge of meeting room capacities, banquet set-up, audio-visual and any other pertinent details as they relate to function room set-up.
- Ability to assess/evaluate employees’ performance fairly and take appropriate corrective actions if necessary.
- Ability to supervise, train and motivate multiple levels of managers and employees.
- Knowledge of resort and competitive market.
- Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, accounting programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and IVvy.
- Excellent interpersonal and sales-related skills.
- Exceptional organizational and supervisory skills.
- May be required to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to sit at a desk for up to five (5) hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. This includes traveling to and from meetings. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
- Long hours sometimes required.
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. occasionally.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment, communicate with others, effectively deal with customers, and accept constructive criticism from supervisors.
- Must be able to change activity frequently and cope with interruptions.

Employer-provided Basic Life Insurance and Basic AD&D are provided after 90 days of employment. 401K eligibility is available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment, and part-time employees after working 1000 total hours.
