Hospitality Companies that are LGBTQ-Friendly
Employer Articles / June 1, 2022The Human Rights Campaign released their 2022 Corporate Equality Index report (CEI) which rates what companies support equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer candidates and employees based on specific criteria including their benefits offered, workplace training and education availability, and LGBTQ community outreach and engagement.
We are highlighting the hospitality companies from the 2022 report:
1. Carnival Corporation (CEI score 100)
Carnival Corporation, best known for its cruise lines including Carnival, Princess, Holland America Line, Seabourn, P&O Cruises, Costa, AIDA, and Cunard. Their global headquarters is located in Miami, FL with several regional headquarters. Pre-pandemic they employed over 150,000 people in nearly 150 countries.
Their LGBTQ support efforts include partnering with the Human Rights Campaign. They were also one of the first companies in 2020 to join the United Nations Standards of Conduct for Business, a global campaign seeking to tackle discrimination against LGBTI people in the workplace and society.
Carnival also ensures a welcoming environment with LGTBQ cruises, onboard activities, and special events, participating in Florida Competes, a top coalition the end LGBTQ discrimination in the state’s businesses, participating and sponsoring annual PRIDE events to raise awareness and funds for LGBTQ organizations including the Los Angeles and Seattle Pride Parade.
2. Choice Hotels International Inc (CEI score 100)
Choice Hotels International Inc has more than 7,000 hotels in over 40 countries and territories, ranging from limited service to full-service hotels.
They have employee resource groups available for employees of all backgrounds to support all employees, including their Choice PRIDE group to help create and maintain a supportive work environment for all LGBTQ associates.
There is a Diversity Committee at the Board of Directors level that assists and oversees management in developing a culture that values diversity and inclusion. They also have a Diversity Advisory Council, headed by the CEO to support Choice with the development and implementation of its diversity and inclusion initiatives and goals.
3. Hilton (CEI score 100)
Hilton is one of the world’s fastest-growing hospitality companies, with 18 hotel brands and more than 6,100 properties across the globe. Hilton employs over 430,000 team members in 119 countries and territories. The headquarters is located in Virginia.
Hilton also has 8 Team Member Resource Groups, including a PRIDE group to create a safe and supportive work environment for team members of all backgrounds. They also developed a program called Courageous Conversations to facilitate difficult conversations with thought leaders to advance awareness, understanding, and a more inclusive workplace.

4. Hyatt Hotels Corporation (CEI score 100)
Hyatt employs over 95,000 in 500 plus properties across six continents. They are currently headquartered in Chicago. 5. InterContinental Hotels Group Americas (CEI score 100)
IHG is headquartered in Atlanta with a global headquarter in England. There are currently over 5,900 IHG properties across 100 countries.
IHG is a proud signatory to the UN LGBTI Standards for Business among other diversity and inclusion organizations and continues to engage with efforts to support representation and inclusion for all underrepresented communities as a member of the National Diversity Council and the Georgia Diversity Council to advocate for the passage of Georgia’s Hate Crime Bill, which passed in June.
IHG’s teams around the world virtually came together for Pride festivities including happy hours, celebrations ad a brainstorming session hosted by the Americas Out & Open employee resource group.
They created their Inclusion Week in November 2020 in the Americas region which focused on D&I virtual events that engaged Employee Resource Groups, learn from keynote speakers, and panel discussions.
