What do banquet servers do? Banquet servers are responsible for setting up the event space, such as the tables, service areas, and meeting rooms. During the events, you are in charge of taking and delivering food and beverage orders from the guests in a courteous and efficient manner. 

Responsibilities:

  • Set up for events by putting out linens, silverware and dishes, service areas, and more depending on the event specifics
  • Carrying plates of food and beverages 
  • Perform cleaning and breakdown of the setup 

Skills Hiring Managers are Looking For:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy work environment 
  • Great communication skills 
  • Strong team player 
  • Basic math skills for transactions

Banquet server positions prefer previous experience as a restaurant or banquet server, and some may require you to be a minimum of 18 years old to serve alcohol. Certain organizations may require a food handler certification as well. 

Possible Career Paths: 

Catering Manager: Catering managers are responsible for soliciting new catering sales accounts and creating and maintaining relationships with existing accounts to meet and/or exceed revenue goals in food, beverage and space rentals. They act as a liaison between the client and the operating departments. 

Server: Servers can work in a restaurant, hotel lounge or dining area. As a server, you are in charge of greeting each guest and taking and delivering their beverage and food orders with efficiency and a welcoming attitude. 

Bartender: Bartenders can also work in a variety of settings, such as a restaurant or bar, or a hotel lounge. Bartenders are responsible for greeting each guest that comes to the service area and taking their drink orders.
