Deborah AmesSenior Vice President of Human ResourcesIn Deb’s mind, a great hospitality experience should be like flipping through the pages of your favorite magazine: discovering something new at every turn that makes you say, “a-ha!” She looks for that “a-ha” quality in people, too. It’s part of what makes her the perfect person to lead McKibbon’s human resources division. Her team members are often the first impression that potential candidates have of McKibbon, and it’s her job to make sure it’s memorable.
Deb has watched the company grow into one of the most well-respected hotel development, management and renovations companies in the country. Along the way, she’s helped cultivate a culture that attracts top talent, shaping an employee experience that entails competitive benefits and a work-life balance she believes you can’t put a price on.
Nothing makes Deb smile more than receiving a funny text or picture from her grandkids. And when she needs to clear her head, she hits the pavement for a good long walk. She’s passionate about helping abused women and children, and she loves that she’s in a position to help fellow employees follow their own causes by helping shape McKibbon’s unique community service efforts.
Bruce BaerwaldeExecutive Vice President of OperationsBruce knew that when he joined the McKibbon family in 1996 he’d found his forever home among the hospitality world’s finest. His gradual rise from General Manager of a single property to Executive Vice President of the company’s hotel management division is the perfect embodiment of the McKibbon spirit. It’s part of what he loves about the McKibbon culture — the opportunity for anyone to prove what they’re made of and achieve their goals. Hard work. Dedication. Positive energy. Forward-thinking. Respect. Those are the things that have helped make Bruce successful; that and his running shoes and fishing rod - his go-to tools when he needs to retreat, relax and recharge.
Although he’s experienced many memorable moments during his time with the company, the experience that stands out the most was the process of onboarding Hilton. The combination of strategy, relationship building and integrating a new brand into the McKibbon portfolio is the type of work Bruce lives for. He also lives for his wife, Sunni, a designer whose creativity and free spirit continues to inspire him on a daily basis. No day is complete without ending it on the back deck alongside her.
Whether Bruce is developing new business for McKibbon, beating his best running time, or is out in the community helping inspire today’s youth, his mission is simple: make it better.
