The HOST/HOSTESS AM facilitates seating and reservations for the restaurant. Provides a gracious initial greeting for arriving guests. Provides general assistance to Splashes service staff to ensure service standards are achieved in the restaurant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, include but not limited to:

  • To understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional manner, deferring to the Restaurant Manager or Assistant when necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • To extend a courteous, friendly, and professional greeting to guests as they arrive, and to thank them as they depart using their name and acknowledging special occasions.
  • To make the Restaurant Manager or Assistant immediately aware of all guest comments and complaints.
  • To be aware, at all times, of current house count, visiting VIP's, and hotel functions, in order to provide personalized service to guests.
  • To provide prompt, efficient, and gracious service, in person or over the telephone, including making restaurant reservations, greeting guests with salutations, seating guests as they arrive, providing menus, and responding to all requests for information regarding the restaurant and hotel.
  • To oversee and ensure continuity of service in the dining room, including assisting service staff, as necessary.
  • To ensure proper rotation of service stations when seating guests.
  • To ensure the cleanliness and good condition of all menus, check presenters and wine lists used during each shift.

Job Requirements

JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATIONAL LEVEL: High school diploma or equivalent required. English fluency required. Previous hotel restaurant experience preferred. Familiar with proper etiquette of seating and salutations. Basic knowledge of foods, service standards, and procedures. Must display knowledge of currently accepted business phone etiquette. Open Table certification required.

SKILLS AND APTITUDES: Detail oriented. Organized and efficient. Learns quickly. Safety-minded. High quality standards for production and service. Diplomatic and calm. Strong verbal communications skills. Courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Good team player. Customer service focus. Able to work productively with little supervision. Trustworthy and reliable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands and walks short distances throughout shift. Frequent use of stairs, daily. Heavy use of phones, daily. Must be able to work well under pressure.

Cristina SchultzAssistant Director of Human ResourcesCristina Schultz has been with the Surf & Sand Resort’s Human Resources team since 2006. Her education started in her native country of Mexico, where she obtained a Law Degree from the Universidad Autonoma De Guadalajara. Cristina’s Human Resources professional career started in 2000 when she achieved her certificate in Human Resources at California State University, Long Beach. She has worked in HR in various positions such as HR Coordinator, Training Manager and Employment Manager. “Surf & Sand Resort and JC Resorts is my second home. It’s a privilege to work in a beautiful environment with such a wonderful team of professionals.”
Julie DoddDirector of Human ResourcesJulie Dodd has been leading the Human Resources team at Surf & Sand Resort since 2004. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in Hospitality Business and has held several positions within the industry; including restaurants, hotels, and private clubs. This diversity allows her to understand the ins and outs of various departments. In 1999, Julie accepted her first Human Resources opportunity and has remained in the HR field ever since. She is personally invested in a service culture where employees are supported and have their own voice. “Hospitality is a hardworking but equally rewarding industry.
