Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The overall objective and purpose of the Assistant Director of Finance are to function as the support for the property Director of Finance and hotel's strategic financial business leader. Assistant Director of Finance will implement hotel-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the hotel's target guest and property Grand Performers. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the provision of financial expertise to enable the successful implementation of the hotel service strategy and initiatives while maximizing the return on investment to the owners. The incumbent is responsible for the execution of a business plan (annual budget) that is aligned with the hotel and company's business strategy and focuses on the performance of financial and accounting activities and the delivery of desirable financial results. They are to provide inspiring and strategic leadership while directing the activities of the hotel in support of the mission, core values, standards, and goals established by the company.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Audits invoices against purchase orders
  • Attend required training and meetings
  • Maintain the integrity of Company proprietary information and protect Company assets
  • Maintain complete knowledge in the use of all office equipment, property management systems, and access according to specifications
  • Maintain complete knowledge and comply with company policies and procedures
  • Assists Director of Finance with projects as needed
  • Assist Director of Finance in preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification
  • Works with the executive team to develop and maintain an accurate financial forecast
  • Assist Director of Finance to provide management with timely reviews of the organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities
  • Partners with and advises the Director of Finance and other leaders on existing and evolving operating/financial issues
  • Analyzes financial data and market trends
  • Assist Director of Finance ensures appropriate corrective actions are made based on internal/external audit results
  • Post journal entries as needed to maintain accurate financials.
  • Monitor, supervise, and prepare month-end account reconciliation's and analysis
  • Reviews payroll records to ensure accuracy and proper coding in line with budgeted labor
  • Assist Director of Finance oversees the Labor Productivity program to prevent unnecessary use of labor
  • Ensure systems in place by the Director of Finance are executed and appropriate controls are continuously in place to manage business risks
  • Ensures compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Assist Director of Finance oversees internal, external, and regulatory audit processes
  • Ensures a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability
  • Communicates financial concepts in a clear, persuasive, and professional manner that drives desired behaviors
  • Assist Director of Finance in providing Department Heads and Managers/Supervisors training on the various financial systems
  • Assist Director of Finance in the facilitation of financial and labor critique meetings with the management team
  • Assists other departments with unresolved guest billing issues and issues involving cash, credit cards, invoices, etc.
  • Spot checks inventory counts to ensure accuracy of inventory extension
  • Research inventory discrepancies when costs deviate from budget and trends
  • All other duties planned assigned, planned or un-planned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in accounting, business, or related area - required
  • 2+ years of experience in Accounting - preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in similar scope and title - preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervisory and leadership responsibilities include achieving results through providing direction and accountability of the following Grand Performers within the culture and policies established by the Kessler Collection.
  • Property Accounting Staff (Staff Accountant and Accounting Clerks)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work environment/conditions described herein are representative of those that an incumbent may experience.
  • Must be comfortable working in a shared space, with constant noise, without the use of a private office.
  • Must be able to cope with frequent changing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of optimism, professionalism & collaboration.
  • Schedules may vary from week to week based on business demands in excess of 40 hours with or without notice.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to move 10lbs on a daily basis.
  • Push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs on a weekly basis.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to travel by foot, car, bus, airplane, or other means of transportation which require sitting, waiting, and standing for long and short periods of time.

Richard KesslerChairman & CEOBack in 1970, Richard Kessler became real estate developer Cecil Day’s right hand man, at just 23 years old, when they both helped found Days Inn of America. He spent the next five years working diligently, leading five estate developments and operational companies which prepared him to become the president and CEO of Days Inn. One year later, he became the chairman at 29 years old and in the 1980s, he opened a separate division dedicated to boutique hotels with a property in Savannah, Georgia and another in Orlando, Florida. The Days Inn chain was sold in 1984 and Kessler introduced his new independent venture, The Kessler Enterprise, Inc., which he still runs today as president and CEO. His main goal at the time was to break into the development of his own boutique hotels. The name “Bohemian” was inspired by the Bohemian Club in California and it provides an experience for guests and visitors to step away from the usual. It invites them to feed into their curiosity by embracing the European Bohemian Lifestyle as an unconventional wandering gypsy with a healthy dose of funky California spirit. This ambience can be felt in each hotel, where guests are encouraged to give into temptation and let their creativity come out to play. In April 2010, the Marriott International Inc., Autograph Collection made its debut with seven Kessler Collection properties. Today, there are a total of 9 properties in The Kessler Collection, including Casa Monica Resort & Spa, St. Augustine, Florida; Grand Bohemian Hotel Orlando, Florida; Bohemian Hotel Celebration, Orlando, Florida; Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville, North Carolina; Beaver Creek Lodge, Colorado; Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront, Georgia; Mansion on Forsyth Park, Savannah, Georgia; Grand Bohemian Hotel Charleston, South Carolina and Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook, Alabama.
