We are seeking a licensed Fire & Life Safety Director (FLSD) with strong technical maintenance skills to support both the safety compliance and mechanical operations of our hotel. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with FDNY fire safety codes while also serving as a hands-on Maintenance Engineer, performing inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems. This is a critical, dual-responsibility role ideal for a seasoned facilities professional with leadership, technical knowledge, and a deep understanding of fire and life safety regulations.

Qualifications

• FDNY Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD) Certificate of Fitness (F-89 or equivalent) is REQUIRED.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in building maintenance, hotel engineering, or similar technical field.

• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex facility issues.

• Experience in fire safety equipment, alarm systems, and emergency response procedures.

• Technical training or trade certification (HVAC, electrical, or mechanical) preferred.

• Strong communication skills, guest-first approach, and ability to work independently.

• Physically capable of lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in tight or elevated areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the hotel’s designated Fire & Life Safety Director, ensuring full compliance with FDNY regulations, building codes, and emergency response protocols.

• Perform daily rounds and inspections of all critical systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment.

• Maintain and troubleshoot rooftop chillers, boilers, domestic hot water heaters, rooftop makeup air units, fan coil units, and ventilation systems.

• Respond promptly to guest room and facility maintenance requests with professionalism and urgency.

• Conduct preventative maintenance according to hotel schedule and manufacturer specifications to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.

• Maintain clean, organized mechanical rooms and equipment storage areas.

• Assist in coordinating with outside vendors for specialized repairs or inspections.

• Be available for on-call emergencies and shift coverage as required.
