In addition, the Irrigation Technician must also be able to perform all the requirements of the Greenskeeper or Groundskeeper and Equipment Operator positions as assigned and directed by the supervisor.

Required Certifications:

  • Minimum age requirement – 18+ (21+ if driving licensed Resort vehicles)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the requirements of driver insurability as established by the insurance carrier required.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in grounds maintenance or irrigation installation, maintenance and repair is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • Encourage obtaining and retaining a valid Texas pesticide irrigator license.
  • Must be certified as necessary, have knowledge of and utilize all applicable, necessary and required safety standards, equipment and protective devices to ensure safe personal hygiene and minimize hazardous exposure potential.
  • Encourage OSHA Hazard Communication Standard training and certification.

Definition:

The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the programming, operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of the irrigation and drainage systems as directed. In addition, the Irrigation Technician must also be able to perform all the requirements of the Greenskeeper or Groundskeeper and Equipment Operator positions as assigned and directed by the supervisor.

General Duties:

  • Because of the fluctuating demands of the Resort’s operation, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your job, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employees are expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
  • Adhere to all of the various written mandatory standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos, oral instructions, etc., all of which go to make up the essential functions of the job.
  • Be involved in the application of irrigation to all irrigated areas as directed.
  • Hand-water or operate irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water as necessary.
  • Advise supervisor of irrigation stations requiring time adjustments to maintain proper soil moisture.
  • Inspect the irrigation system daily for proper operation.
  • Repair all pipes, fittings, valves, wires, controllers and heads as needed.
  • Maintain parts and material inventory and submit purchase requests to the supervisor.
  • Perform all preventive maintenance on the irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Install additional irrigation or drainage as directed by the supervisor.
  • Report all malfunctions or failures to the supervisor immediately.
  • Clean and return all equipment and materials to their designated area upon completion of assignment on a daily basis.
  • Clean and maintain irrigation storage areas.
  • Assist in orientation and training of the Foreman on the operation and layout of the irrigation system including isolation valves, controllers, programming, piping, fittings, sprinkler heads, repairs, preventive maintenance, water transfer systems, water quality ponds, etc.

In addition:

  • Edge all sprinkler heads, valve boxes and drainage basins as needed.
  • Control insects in the irrigation control boxes.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed by the supervisor.
  • Participate in relevant continuing educational opportunities sufficient to maintain necessary licenses, certifications, knowledge and understanding of irrigation systems and practices.
  • Become knowledgeable of environmental awareness and stewardship relating to irrigation issues.
  • Abide by and follow all local ordinances, city, county, state and federal laws.
  • Be a "team player" and "team builder" responsible for:
    1. Making decisions and supporting decisions of management.
    2. Receiving an assignment and reporting its results when completed.
    3. Capable of multi-tasking various projects and tasks along with their deadlines.
    4. Promoting interdependence among the team.
    5. Maintaining a positive attitude consistent with the beliefs and standards set by Horseshoe Bay Resort
    6. Render advice, opinions, assistance and services to the supervisory staff.
    7. Perform other duties and assignments to assist other departments or as directed by the supervisor.

Employment Standards:

  • Assist to operate and manage efficiently and effectively within the approved budget guidelines.
  • Responsible for the security of all equipment, tools, supplies, materials and facilities entrusted by the Resort to the Irrigation Technician and/or assigned to his/her helpers.
  • Responsible for attending all company required training sessions; including but not limited to financial, safety, managerial, human resources, computer, etc.
  • Responsible for attending all training and continuing education sessions necessary to obtain and remain current on all license requirements, equipment, irrigation systems, product knowledge, environmental stewardship, maintenance practices, safety, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of agronomy, engineering, and grounds maintenance as related to irrigation and drainage.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic working knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, automatic heads, valves, controllers and pump stations.
  • High degree of good common sense and math skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and able to follow instructions.
  • Working knowledge of safe and efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment to perform assigned duties.
  • Resident, member and guest sensitivity.
  • All management information shall be kept in confidence.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Majority of the work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions common to Texas.
  • Exposure to maintenance equipment; including but not limited to moving parts, heights, noise, airborne debris, vibration and fumes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and environmentally responsible work environment.
  • Must have the physical strength, stamina and agility to perform the assigned duties.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Working knowledge of safe and efficient mechanical operation of all golf course maintenance and product application procedures.
