Department Summary

UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge is a unique Southern California meeting and retreat venue. Located high in the pine-studded San Bernardino Mountains on the tranquil shores of Lake Arrowhead, our 50-acre lodge provides meeting space and accommodations for groups from September through mid-June. During the summer, Bruins Woods Family Camp program runs for ten consecutive weeks, with up to 80 families attending each week.
Position Summary
The Sales Manager assumes a critical role in Lake Arrowhead Lodge (LAL). By identifying new business partnerships to secure revenue streams, the Sales Manager serves as the primary point of contact for actively managing external vendors and affinity partners, establishing contract parameters, outlining event timelines and deadlines, selecting appropriate media channels, setting catering sales performance goals, and collaborating with senior-level corporate, business, and community leaders. This enables the identification and development of opportunities for key relationships designed to maximize event sales and revenue-generating programs. The Sales Manager collaborates with senior managers to develop annual fiscal forecasts, maintains performance statistics, and prepares reports and analyses for management. As a member of the UCLA Hospitality team, the Sales Manager actively promotes the other business units, such as the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center, The UCLA Guest House, and the UCLA Catering and Conferences venues. Travel is required to expand the client base to represent Lake Arrowhead Lodge and UCLA in national and local markets. The Sales Manager exercises significant discretion in negotiating large-scale contracts, including room pricing, food/beverage pricing, audio-visual pricing, and other ancillary revenue/service pricing. The Sales Manager provides dynamic leadership in all selling activities, including direct selling for all groups, catering/banquet sales, and transient sales. They also lead the conference team, market the property through print, digital, and social media, and develop marketing campaigns for groups, catering/banquet sales, and transient sales. The Sales Manager also provides revenue management and oversight of OTA platforms and promotions. This leadership role is instrumental in meeting all income goals by managing LAL's sales and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years Professional hospitality experience in hotel sales, convention services, or the collegiate conference and events industry (Required)
  • Proven and successful track record of closing sales and negotiating high-value financial contracts. The ability to effectively close sales and negotiate financial contracts with large dollar volumes. Ability to sell and service conference, event and meeting agreements. (Required)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities. Skill in supervising, including delegating responsibility and training. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of catering and conferencing business, including menu planning, current trends in food and entertaining, basic room setups and capacities, and audio/visual equipment (Required)
  • Experience maintaining a high standard of productivity despite frequent interruptions. Ability to complete a large volume of diverse tasks efficiently, meeting established deadlines (Required)
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills including political acumen and social perceptiveness (Required)
  • Ability to use independent, rational judgment, take initiative, and follow through on assignments with minimal direction (Required)
  • Proficient skill using standard business software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) and hospitality sales software (e.g. Delphi) (Required)
  • Skill in writing grammatically correct business English, such as conference proposals, memos, and other routine correspondence (Required)
  • Accounting and math skills sufficient to prepare cost estimates, proposals, and billing explanations (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in working as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues, and maintaining cooperative working relationships (Required)
  • Sufficient knowledge of University accounting forms and procedures to accomplish standard departmental accounting transactions (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Housing & Hospitality operational units, such as the Food & Beverage department (Preferred)
