Engineer (Overnight) Part-Time Overnight

Job Description:               

The Mercer is Soho’s foremost luxury hotel, offering 74 guest rooms on six floors of a romantic landmark Romanesque revival building in one of New York’s most exclusive neighborhoods.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced engineer with flexible working hours.

Overall Duties / Responsibilities:

• Maintains the Engineering inventory. Keeps detailed records of the daily operational supply of parts and materials. Updates the inventory on a weekly basis and reports back to the Chief Engineer
• Attends to any house calls during the night. Makes sure the guest requests are completed and/or followed up with.
• Oversees the FDNY building protocol. Follows up with the signing of the log book, corresponds with other FSD’s to ensure the building is up to code.
• Acts as the Fire Safety Captain and follows through with all responsibilities.
• Responds to emergency situations with urgency and effectiveness. Works to solve problems and makes the decisions when vendor support is needed.
• Helps with furniture inventory throughout the hotel. Makes sure rooms have the correct setups and reports the condition of rooms on each shift. Updates furniture checklists to ensure the day shift can work on getting things repaired.
• Checks all systems in the hotel throughout the night. Provides a detailed update regarding the functionality of each critical system (Boilers, Chillers, Hot Water heaters, domestic pumps, freight units, Mercer kitchen, café units, and guest room units)
• Walks the exterior of the hotel, provides an update with what is needed. Directs staff to clean, mop, and scrubs any part of the exterior that looks dirty.
• Ensures lobby light bulbs are changed
• Completes any other tasks that the chief engineer assigns to you.
• Inspects guest rooms, public space and heart-of-house for needed and preventative maintenance
• Communicates to the AM shift as to the happenings during the overnight shift. Makes sure that critical information is transferred.
• Pay attention to the weather and makes sure the building is prepared for any extreme events. (Extreme Cold, Extreme Heat, Major Storms etc.)
• Changes critical system filters (Sartianos, Coffee Room, Freight units, Elevator room unit)
