Job Description

The Omni Dallas Hotel is seeking an exceptional and highly driven Director of Convention Services to join our team at the premier convention hotel in Dallas. Located in the heart of downtown and directly connected to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, the Omni Dallas Hotel is a flagship destination for conventions, high-profile meetings, banquets, and prestigious social gala events. As a cornerstone of the city’s hospitality landscape, the hotel plays a pivotal role in hosting major National and International conferences in Dallas. This leadership role will oversee the convention and catering services team, ensuring flawless event execution while driving operational excellence and revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in luxury, high-volume convention hotels and complex event operations, with a proven track record of delivering world-class service.

Responsibilities

  • Review/approve all turnovers from the group sales department; assign conferences, meetings and events to team members and to ensure seamless transition and optimal revenue generation
  • Coordinate all aspects of VIP and citywide conferences as requested, including but not limited to customized food and beverage requirements, audio-visual needs, special meal requests, arrival/departure manifests, transportation, amenities, function room setup, and entertainment
  • Ensure all associates prepare and distribute accurate group resumes with comprehensive event details prior to the group’s arrival, aligning with the property's timeline so every operational department fully understands the group's logistics and expectations
  • Lead engaging and strategic weekly resume meetings to review upcoming groups and events, proactively addressing potential challenges to ensure seamless execution
  • Ensure adherence to established Convention Services departmental standards and continuously refine processes for efficiency and excellence
  • Establish and maintain Omni Dallas Hotel’s position as the leader for corporate and social events within the Dallas market
  • Develop and execute an innovative strategic plan for the Convention Services department, aligning with hotel goals and market trends
  • Prepare the annual revenue budget with the Directors of Sales and Marketing along with the Director of Finance to provide accurate revenue forecasts and performance analysis as required monthly
  • Foster strong, strategic relationships with key vendors and partners to enhance the guest experience and ensure seamless and quality event execution
  • Provide dynamic leadership by actively mentoring, coaching, and inspiring all department personnel to uphold exceptional service standards
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with the team, provide performance feedback, and implement individualized coaching or counseling when necessary
  • Maximize revenue potential by securing high-revenue-yielding business across all event spaces and catering services
  • Oversee and enforce the timely collection of all advanced deposits for contracted groups and events
  • Conduct thorough and strategic pre and post-conference meetings as required, ensuring client expectations are exceeded and continuous improvement initiatives are implemented as needed
  • Ensure banquet event orders are accurately prepared and distributed to all relevant departments within the hotel's established timeline allowing for proactive planning and execution
  • Work closely with the executive culinary and banquet teams to uphold luxury service standards and deliver extraordinary, memorable guest experiences
  • Analyze guest feedback and meeting planner surveys, implementing proactive measures to consistently achieve outstanding satisfaction scores
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for key events, providing leadership presence, ensuring real-time adjustments, and guaranteeing guest satisfaction
  • Participate in all required operational meetings and contribute to company-wide initiatives that elevate Omni Dallas’ reputation in the luxury meetings and events industry

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Convention Services leadership within an upscale, high-volume convention hotel or resort
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-day programs with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience in a luxury hotel setting strongly considered
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, train, and retain a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional contract negotiation, sales strategy, and client relationship-building abilities
  • Highly developed customer service skills, operational acumen, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with FDC or similar event management software strongly preferred
  • The ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by high-profile event demands
