Job Summary

Hotel Granduca Houston is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our team. As a member of our team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the hotel’s mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the upkeep of the hotel’s physical plant, FF&E, grounds, and amenities. This role requires an individual with a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to provide a safe and exceptional environment for our guests. Essential Job Functions

The hotel operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so operational demands may require variations in shift days, starting times, and hours worked in a week.

• Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and resolve malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other equipment throughout the hotel.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, including “room care” and other proactive maintenance efforts to ensure optimal functionality.
• Pool & Spa Maintenance: Manage the upkeep of the hotel pool, including chemical adjustments, cleaning filters, and completing maintenance logs and service request forms.
• Exterior & Grounds Maintenance: Maintain the hotel’s exterior and curb appeal, including lawn care, painting, and gardening to enhance the overall guest experience.
• Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety, security, and emergency protocols.
• Incident Reporting: Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, near-misses, or property damage promptly to the supervisor.
• Team Collaboration: Assist other engineering personnel as needed and perform related duties as requested by supervisors or managers.
• General Responsibilities: Maintain a clean and professional appearance in accordance with hotel grooming standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of maintenance trades including electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and carpentry. Proficiency in HVAC systems, plumbing, painting, roofing, and landscaping.
• Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to operate and repair hotel systems and equipment with troubleshooting skills for routine malfunctions.
• Safety Awareness: Ability to identify potential safety hazards and security concerns and act accordingly to resolve them.
• Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with both internal and external customers, including the ability to manage sensitive situations with patience, tact, and diplomacy.
• Communication: Ability to listen attentively and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally, with guests and team members.
• Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Previous experience in hotel maintenance is a plus.
• Building Knowledge: Strong understanding of the hotel's layout, including guest rooms and public spaces, to facilitate maintenance tasks.

Physical Demands

• Mobility: Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods while performing essential duties.
• Environmental Flexibility: Capable of working in hot, cold, and wet conditions, and able to stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb on various surfaces, including ladders up to 30 feet.
• Sensory Abilities: Adequate hearing and vision to observe and respond to emergency situations or potential hazards.
• Strength & Dexterity: Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 100 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
• Physical Stamina: Frequent twisting, bending, standing, walking, and other physical tasks required for the role.
• Communication: Able to engage in verbal communication and provide clear directions, as well as maintain professional non-verbal cues such as smiling.
