While remote (think: work from home) hospitality jobs existed before the pandemic, 2023 remote work in hospitality is now (even after things have gotten somewhat back to normal) 3x more popular than it was prior to March 2020 (citing Google trends and our own proprietary data). The hospitality experts at Hcareers have curated a list of the most popular hotel/hospitality work from home jobs.

1. Reservations Sales Agent: Both the hotel and cruise industries often seek candidates for this position. These employees are required to take bookings from incoming reservation calls as well as general reservations email and to assist with guest inquiries related to hotel services and hours of operation. “Res agents” are also responsible for contacting guests prior to arrival to confirm reservations and guest preferences. Identifying VIP guests and communicating their travel details such as specific requests and arrival times to the hotel or relevant cruise ship staff can also be an essential part of this role. A professional phone manner and clear writing abilities are usually necessary for this job.

2. Business Development Manager: These staffers are typically hired by larger hotel brands and are in charge of building, developing, and implementing business strategies that target a specific audience, which can be business travelers with small and medium-sized business or leisure travelers from within a designated geographic area. The objective is to secure new business opportunities for a hotel or hotel brand by targeting various groups, organizations, and associations in an effort to develop new client accounts while also managing existing client business. These job candidates often have an entrepreneurial spirit, embrace partnership marketing and have experience in cultivating and converting customers from prospects to signed contracts.

3. Area Sales Manager: This position can be quite similar to that of a business development manager, but often when working for a smaller hotel organization, will have greater involvement in the execution of client contracts. So while they will still prospect for new business and drive loyalty from existing accounts, they may also assist with group rooming lists and daily inspection of the guest folio, communicating with the front desk on group or VIP guest arrival regarding billing and other guest communications like special requests from group leaders.

4. eCommerce Manager: These managers work either with an eCommerce department or sales department, depending on the size of the hotel organization. They are charged with improving market share and driving sales from online channels, maintaining the online sales experience by analyzing, reviewing, recommending, and finally implementing digital strategies that can include hotel website optimization, search engine optimization (SEO) copywriting involving keyword placement, tags and calls to action, third party websites, social media marketing and inbound link development from relevant sites and directories. Knowledge of all of these facets of eCommerce is essential to the job as is familiarity with related tools such as Google Analytics, AdWords, and Adobe Creative Suite. Moreover, although this could be a virtual position, the manager will still need to have strong interpersonal skills as they will be working as part of a team.

5. Digital Marketing Manager: There are commonalities between eCommerce Managers and Digital Marketing Managers, although the main point of difference is that eCommerce positions are usually offered by large hotel organizations while Digital Marketing Managers work for smaller hotel groups or individual hotels where they will likely report to the Director of Sales and Marketing, managing the hotel’s website, social media platforms and messaging and advertising on third-party platforms. They may also assist with graphic design projects and coordinate other miscellaneous marketing efforts as needed, such as building custom lists from the company database in order to create electronic newsletters. Like eCommerce Managers, Digital Marketing Managers will also have relevant prior experience with demonstrable successes and many of the same eCommerce tool proficiencies.

Revenue Manager: This is a sales-related position as revenue managers must monitor profitability and growth compared with the prior year while also reviewing the hotel’s pricing and positioning compared with its competitive set and providing segment strategies that are aligned with revenue management initiatives. Prior experience in hotel revenue management is almost always a requirement as are analytic skills as it pertains to industry data and experience with various automated systems.
