Over-the-top breakfast treats
French toast and pancakes are standard breakfast fare. Yawn! Marriott brands across the continental United States are taking these ordinary items and giving them a tasty twist, to provide their guests with a memorable experience and tighten their relationship with the Marriott brand.
The San Diego Marriott in the Gaslamp Quarter is a perfect example offering of out-of-the-box breakfast delicacies. This upscale hotel features the unique dining destination of Soleil @k, which offers both a Cranberry French Toast with maple syrup and cinnamon cream and Sweet Potato Pancakes with orange marmalade butter. How to choose which one is their guests’ biggest challenge!
Across the country, in New York’s famous Times Square, is the Algonquin Hotel Times Square, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. This hotel features the Round Table Restaurant, known for gourmet American food, sure to satisfy their guests’ inner foodie. As with the San Diego Marriott’s Sweet Potato Pancakes, the Algonquin Hotel features a breakfast item with a veggie infusion. The Butternut Squash Waffle is topped with bacon jam, spiced pecans and eggnog butter, for a flavor explosion.
In addition to pancakes and waffles, omelets complete the traditional hot breakfast trilogy. Traditional omelet proteins include ham, bacon and sausage, which are tasty pork ingredients, but do not make guests post food pictures to Instagram or write a foodie Facebook post. The Artisan Bistro, located in the Boston Ritz-Carlton, features a truly innovative gourmet omelet – a Truffle Duck Omelet, with wild mushrooms, aged Provolone, jumbo asparagus and served with whole grain bread. Their guests will never look at omelets the same way again!
Flavored butters provide melt-in-your-mouth magic
Butter is an on-trend ingredient, with the American Butter Institute reporting that consumption has risen twenty-five percent over the past decade, helped by the growing demand for natural ingredients. Adding unique flavors to butters provides a surprising flavor for traditional menu items, and can become a signature flavor used in multiple dishes. Marriott hotels have jumped onto the butter bandwagon!
The Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Ray showcases Cast & Plow restaurant, an innovator in the farm-to-table dining scene, specializing in community-grown, sustainable cuisine. Two of their premium entrées feature unique flavored butters, from their Sweet Potato Gnocchi with kale, leeks, Parmesan and pine nut brown butter, to their Yellowtail with beets, green cauliflower puree and smoked shrimp butter. Pine nut butter, smoked shrimp butter, OH MY!
Steaks are special treat. The Casa Monica Resort & Spa, part of the Marriott Autograph Collection have pushed the steak envelope even further by topping their steaks with flavored butter. The Costa Brava Spanish-Mediterranean restaurant, located in the resort, offers a filet of Beef Tenderloin topped with espresso black pepper compound butter, along with whipped potatoes and chives.
Flavored butters jazz up traditional breakfast items. The Citizen Hotel, in Sacramento, CA, also part of the Marriott Autograph Collection features the Grange Restaurant & Bar, which tops their Buttermilk Griddle Cakes with toasted almond butter. The San Diego Marriott in the Gaslamp Quarter offers their guests whipped vanilla butter on all of their griddle items, from brown sugar waffles to their crunchy French toast.
